  • Howard University Hospital / Griffith Stadium (site, demolished), ToddC4176 wrote 16 years ago:
There are still points of reference from the modern structures to the main aerial shots of the field. The houses in the south of the lot are the same that were behind the right field fence in the pictures of the stadium. The left field bleachers were along 5th St NW, and there was a large parking lot where the front plaza and parking lot are on the west side of the lot. The "H" shaped School of Medicine is also visible in the main picture, behind the third base grandstands.

When I visited Washington, this was one of my favorite museums. It's not crowded with tourists, there are a large number of historical artifacts, well lit and you can easily walk around the artifacts.

Most likely, yes. The building by Cedar Drive is the original building of Saint Elizabeths and was built using the Kirkbride method. See http://www.kirkbridebuildings.com/index.html for more info on Kirkbride.

  • DC "Pentagram", Lolo (guest) wrote 16 years ago:
The pentagram is believed to have been discovered by astronomers in the Tigris-Eurphrates region around 4,000BC. Most notably, it was used by the Pythagorean Greeks. American Masons from the colonial period would surely have been aware of the connection to the Pythagoreans. The sign was also used as part of the official seal of the city of Jerusalem, and has been called Solomon's seal or Solomon's shield. Crusader knights sometimes used the sign on their coats of arms. It has also appeared as a sign for Venus/Ischtar/Astatrte (although the eight-pointed star is probably more common and the two don't seem to have been used simultaneously). The sign's association with magic and the devil appears to date from the Middle Ages. In Nordic countries - which were some of the last areas in Europe to be Christianized - it was drawn on houses as protection against evil. For a very interesting Masonic site in the DC area, see here: http://wikimapia.org/beta/#lat=38.8073848&lon=-77.0651543&z=17&l=0&m=b&v=1

The square block of green trees at the north of this rectangle is NOT part of the two buildings seen at the bottom. The green area is a public park with a large water area encircled by trees.
