This store isn't so "social" anymore, now the Trader Joe's in Foggy Bottom is much more happening (for a grocery story anyway).

The Park Service met with the community a month ago to tell us it will take at least ten years to investigate restoration of the three tenements as a national historic site and develop an interpretive program. They will need matching funds from ASALH to make this happen. Using Elearnor Holmes Norton's pay-off, ASALH has parlayed the cash into purchasing, restoring and outfitting an old townhouse on Q and 7th as their 3500 square foot headquarters at the cost of several million dollars. Even with the Congressional infusion, ASALH will be hard up for bling even a dozen years from now.
NOTE: It took China three years to build a rail line from Beijing to Lhasa, Tibet through permafrost, across glaciers and up several thousand meters elevation. They did this because they see it as important. Why can't the Park Service move any quicker to fix up three boarded up tenements? They don't care. They don't intend to do anything to the site!
